(Milford, NH) – Rumors about Pennichuck Brewing closing began in October of last year. First, closing looked imminent, then the brewery had apparently found a last-minute investor, and then it all fell through. In an October Craigslist post in which the brewery was selling odds and ends from the brewery, Owner, Phil Jewett, left the door open to starting things up again though:
“You are welcome to come to the brewery to look at what is selling or just buy the last of the Pennichuck beer that will be sold for the next 9 or so months until we begin production again.”
The Brewers Association also left Pennichuck off of its list of closing breweries in its November update.
Fast forward to this past Friday. In a forum post to the Brewers Association, Jewett seemingly indicates that he is done for good:
“After several months of working with a couple of investors, we decided to move forward with closing our doors which actually went into effect at the end of November. I look forward to returning to my full-time commitment as a husband, father and Paramedic.”
Jewett has also posted up his brewing system for sale on eBay for $80,000. Less than two days remain on the sale though there are no bids as of this writing.
My last mention of Pennichuck on the blog here came in April of 2009 when I posted info on Chief’s Imperial IPA. The brewery will be sorely missed in the growing NH brewing scene.
