(Gorham, ME) – Sebago Brewing will likely release Bourbon Barrel Lake Trout Stout in 22 oz. bombers within the next couple weeks. The brewery has produced 40 cases for this batch which will be available in Maine and mostly sold at the company’s restaurants. It is expected to retail for $7.99.
Head Brewer, Tom Abercrombie, provided a beer description: “Our Bourbon Barrel Lake Trout Stout is a velvety smooth twist on our classic stout. We aged our stout in four freshly emptied charred oak bourbon barrels for over four months. Next we carefully blended it with fresh stout to balance the character of the barrel with the boldly familiar flavor of Lake Trout Stout. Unlike our draft LTS, this beer is carbonated to enhance the bourbon barrel experience. This beer’s rich and full-bodied character is complemented by hints of vanilla, oak and bourbon.”
This may be among the first commercially released bourbon-barrel stouts brewed in the state of Maine.
Abercrombie hinted to the possibility that there may be a second batch that will come out, perhaps next year. He added, “This project is just an extension of the other barrel again that we’ve done. In the past we’ve aged our Midnight Porter, Slick Nick Winter Ale and our Barleywine in barrels. Look for our Barleywine in 22oz. bottles around the 1st of March.”
As far as finding this on tap, the brewery has recently been tweeting out that the beer is available so you don’t have to wait until bottles are released.
