Shipyard Brewer’s Brown Ale returns after four-year hiatus

(Portland, ME) – In addition to adding 4-packs for some of the Shipyard Pugsley’s Signature Series beers, Shipyard Brewing has something else up its sleeve to start out 2010. The brewery is ready to bring back Shipyard Brewer’s Brown Ale sometime in the next couple weeks after a long absence.

The beer hasn’t been produced since 2006 when it was known as Brewer’s Choice Special Brown Ale. The only change between the new and old version that I can see is that the brewery has swapped out Styrian Goldings hops for Fuggles hops.

Says Director of Communications, Tami Kennedy, “We have had such a positive response to that beer we decided to permanently add it to our line up of brews.”

The brewery also has a Brown Ale available year-round though Kennedy notes this one has a higher ABV and additional complexity.

Here is the commercial description: “A full-bodied, dark brown ale made with 5 different malts and 3 varieties of hops. Pale Ale, Crystal, Chocolate, Roasted Barley and Wheat Malts combine to give this beer a nice smoky taste up front and a smooth, full body finishing with a crisp hop bite at the back. Hops used in this brew are English Challenger, Fuggles, and East Kent Goldings at the finish. 5.4% alcohol by volume.”

Brewer’s Brown will be available in 6-packs, 12-packs and on draft while supplies last (likely into late March/early April).

    Of course they did…

  2. Not a fan of the Fuggles, eh? I don’t remember trying any IPA with Fuggles. Shipyard is the only brewery that jumps to mind that uses it actually.
