The Garrett Oliver Interview: Sorachi Ace variation planned for bottles

Peter has been writing reviews over at Simply Beer for a while now though it was a video he shot in December that really caught my attention. Quick note: I recently discovered Peter was actually the first one with the news that Stone Brewing, Dogfish Head, and Victory Brewing would be collaborating. He interviewed Dogfish Head’s Sam Calagione this past fall and Sam spilled the beans.

The interview above with Brooklyn Brewery Brewmaster, Garrett Oliver, is extensive. The 45-min epic covers the gamut of Oliver’s unique offerings from the draft-only Brewmaster Reserve Series to his ongoing project with Germany’s Schneider and Sohn to some of the special releases like Black Ops. If you have never heard Oliver talk beer before, you are in for a treat!

Among the things we learn (though there is much more than this), Oliver plans to bring a version of Brooklyn Sorachi Ace to bottles this spring. Oliver predicts around 2,000 cases. The former Brewmaster Reserve Series beer is a Belgian-style Saison using Sorachi Ace hops, a variety that originated in Japan but is easier to find in the States now according to Oliver.
