Beer notes: Bell’s Eccentric Ale, Pliny, Three Floyds, Boulevard, Deschutes

Bell’s Eccentric 2009 Ale has received label approval. This one is brewed with spices, maple syrup and hawberry syrup. Here’s a rundown of previous styles in the Bell’s Eccentric Series.

Scott Bort of the Post-Tribune reported on Friday, “Brewers Nick Floyd and Barnaby Struve are heading out to Dogfish Head Craft Brewery next week to crate another beer with Sam Calagione and his team of brewers. Last year they teamed up to create Popskull in Munster. This year, the beer will be brewed in Milton, Del. and DFH will sell most of it.”

Remember that now-deleted cryptic “Worlds are going to collide” post on 3Floyds.com this past week mentioning Oprah and Martha Stewart? Bort also has the answer to that question which involves Three Floyds Moloko Milk Stout.

Boulevard Brewing announced that Rye-on-Rye debuts on shelves in Kansas City today. Dark Truth Stout will come in seven days.

Deschutes Brewery is expanding distribution to Minnesota beginning in April, according to multiple sources. Black Butte Porter and Mirror Pond Pale Ale will be available initially in draft and 22 ounce bottles.

Finally, Pliny the Younger has taken the beer world by storm this month, completely overshadowing the Foothills Sexual Chocolate release in the process. I checked Beer Advocate to see the number of Pliny threads started. Here are the numbers:

Through 2/3 of Feb. 2010: 102, Feb. 2009: 57
Jan. 2010: 79, Jan. 2009: 32
Dec. 2009: 35, Dec. 2008: 15
