(Flossmoor, IL) – Flossmoor Station Brewery will debut a new beer in bottles soon and another one just arrived at the brewpub recently.

Here is the lowdown on Flossmoor Station Hi-Fi Rye, courtesy of the brewery’s blog:

“We have in our fermentation tanks a ‘bottle-only’ release beer, and as the release suggests will not be sold on draft. It is called ‘Hi-Fi Rye’. Hi-Fi is a Rye Wine or for those who are all technical and such, a barley wine-style ale made with more than 50% rye malt. Ours happens to be 58% rye and hopefully will finish around 11%. This beer will be aged in stainless and bottled in February for a release of 55 cases. We are splitting this batch with some going into barrels for another bottle release this time next year with a bourbon aged version of Hi-Fi (~75 cases).”

The label reads, “The American hop varieties used impart complex citrus, spicy, earthy notes, and combine to amplify the rye character.”

The use of rye, especially in tandem with hoppy beers, is a trend that has been picking up over the last couple years and is now exploding at the start of 2010.

Also of note, the brewery is now selling bottles of a new IPA called Hoppy, Hoppy, Joy, Joy at the brewpub. If you’ve ever watched an episode of the old cartoon, Ren and Stimpy, you will get the reference.
