(Fort Worth, TX) – Reports say that a record 12.5 inches of snow nailed the Dallas/Fort Worth area late this past week. The snow accumulation was enough to cause a partial roof collapse at Rahr and Son Brewing. As a result, the brewery is temporarily closed for repairs. Fortunately, everyone appears to be ok as the collapse occurred in the wee hours of Friday morning and the brewery is protected through insurance.
The Star-Telegram reports, “Rahr, who has encountered an array of challenges building the city’s only microbrewery business since 2004, said he arrived Friday morning to find a foot of water at the facility. Large pieces of the roof had fallen over the bottling line, and firefighters had broken through a door, he said.”
Brewery reps have been posting updates to Facebook and seem to be in relatively good spirits given the circumstances. Rahr was hosting a gathering off-site this afternoon where it planned to have Rahr Bucking Bock make its spring seasonal return. The brewery joked that the powers above weren’t quite as ready for spring to arrive as they were.
Rahr’s local distributor and others will have to hold extra beer during repairs so the faster that Rahr beers turn over, the better. Seeking something new? In addition to Bucking Bock, Rahr Iron Thistle recently made its bottled debut. A full write-up can be found on the brewery’s website.
