[2/18 Update: More availability info included below since original publishing]
(Atlanta, GA) – Sweetwater Brewing just released its sixth Dank Tank Series beer in 22 oz. bombers, BSP Quad.
According to AtlantaBeerMaster.com, BSP Quad hit stores this week (Reid lists a few of the spots where you can buy it).
The beer weighs in at 11% ABV and the brewery forewent the sexual innuendo in the name this time. Distribution is generally limited to Georgia though you can sometimes find these beers at Bruisin’ Ales in North Carolina (and they ship). Not sure where else one would find them outside of GA.
[2/18 Update: More info via the Sweetwater blog: “BSP Quad is a Belgian Quadruple Ale with a sweet, caramel and chocolate roasted body, a rich mahogany color, and a little spicy finish from the Sterling hops . This Quad is 11% ABV, and comes in hefty 22 ounce bottles with the widely recognized ceramic Dank Tank label, and on draft as well. It’s best enjoyed when refrigerated and will evolve over time if stashed with care in your cellar.
Dank Tank creations emerge from the dark side of SweetWater’s brewers and are few and far between, meaning those in the know are clamoring to get their hands on this brew. Only 500 cases and 50 kegs of BSP Quad are shipped out of the brewery, primarily to Atlanta and a few other lucky cities in the Southeast, including Tallahassee, FL; Raleigh, NC; Charleston, SC; and more. Like past Dank Tank beers, BSP Quad will likely vanish in about six weeks… gone, but never forgotten.”
The label reads, “Belgian, Strong, Pause . . . for a moment and let’s consider the Possibilities. Sure, you were thinking Pale but it’s not at all pale. Rather the contrary. The P could stand for Perfect: perfectly befitting a warm respite in front of a fire on a cold February night – but we don’t say chit like that. You’ll probably just drink this Belgian Quad like a session beer and hope for the best in the morning anyway, so screw it. Maybe the P stands for your favorite Pub, the place where you go to hang out, drink killer beer and enjoy life. Yup, that’s the one. The Quad part, well it’s a style for sure, but it could be in reference to a collaboration between a Pub and a Brewhouse that opened in the same year out of friendships and a love for great beer. Yeah, those four things are in here too.”
Putting the word “Strong” on the label is a violation of TTB policy. How did they get away with that one?
They didn’t submit it to the TTB yet so it’s possible this version will be different from the final label.
