Upland Dantalion Dark Wild Ale coming in March

(Bloomington, IN) – Upland Brewing will release a new sour beer, Dantalion Dark Wild Ale, in bottles next month.

Here is the beer description from Upland Brewing’s Head Brewer, Caleb Staton, “Thursday hallmarked our first bottling of another type of long aged oak beer with a variety of microorganisms in play . The beer is still hard for any of us to really define, it’s really one of a kind. At 8.5% ABV, it would probably be most akin to a strong Flander’s Brown. A spice blend was involved as well as some dark Belgian Candi Sugar during the kettle boil. That part we controlled. The rest was up to Brettanomyces, Lactic Acid Bacteria, and whatever else decided to visit the fermentation as we left each barrel open to air for an intentional short period of time. As to the name, he’s a demon, we named the beer after a demon. Space Dragon was too grade school.”

Beer stats – ABV: 8.5, IBUs: 27, SG: 0, SRM: 37

Only 300 bottles have been produced, none of which will go into distribution. Reservations will begin in mid-February. One way for people to find out when reservations start is to sign up for the brewery’s newsletter, which you can do on the brewery website. I’m sure there will be also be threads on Beer Advocate and RateBeer (and probably some talk on Twitter and Facebook) as soon as reservations are live.
