[3/20 Update: Please see attached at bottom of article]

(Boulder, CO) – Next up in the Barrel-Aged Series: Avery Dépuceleuse.

Avery Brewing keeps rolling with its limited edition series. Coming up next is an ale brewed with sour cherries and aged in zinfandel barrels with 100% Brett fermentation. There is no release date set as of yet and typically of wild beers, it’ll be a wait-and-see approach. Brabant, the first in the set, was also a wild ale aged in zinfandel barrels though I am told this is not simply Brabant with sour cherries, but rather an entirely different beer.

Dépuceleuse appears to be a play on the French word, “dépuceler,” which means “deflower” in English. There are only 463 cases. 9.73% ABV.

In other Avery news, the brewery just released The Maharaja Imperial IPA this past weekend. Also look for the return of Samael’s Oak Aged Ale and Karma Ale on April 1st. Cans will be arriving later this spring as previously reported along with another new beer. April 30th/May 1st brings the 8th Annual Boulder Strong Ale Festival.

3/19 Update via Avery Brewing’s newsletter:

The beer has spoken, and she is ready to be sipped and savored! After a year spent in zinfandel wine barrels in our barrel-aging cellars, Depuceleuse has finally matured and is primed to be bottled. A 100% brettanomyces fermentation gives this brew lots ‘o funk throughout, intertwined with pungent elements of sour cherries, delicate aromas of aged wood and a gentle spice imparted the zinfandel barrels. Adventurous and true to the spirit of our Barrel-Aged Series of one-and-done brews, Depuceleuse is a forceful departure from the mindset of traditional beer style and features a harmony of intriguing flavors.
