A lot to cover in this edition . . . Goose Island Bourbon County Brand Coffee Stout rumors, The Bruery Melange no. 3, Troegs Rugged Trail and two new Schlafly beers coming.
Rumor! There is a lot of talk on Beer Advocate that Goose Island Bourbon County Brand Coffee Stout will be delayed into next month. I haven’t confirmed this but according to one poster (via Greg Hall), the Bourbon County Stout variants will be available in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin.
A couple more technical points on the beer for the homebrewers out there: O.G.: 30, 60 IBU, Hops: Willamette, Malts: 2-row, Munich, Chocolate, Caramel 60, Roast Barley, Debittered Black.
From The Bruery on Beer Advocate: “The next Reserve Society offering will be Melange No. 3. It’s being blended and bottled today, but won’t likely be released until late April / early May. We’ll be contacting members about allocations soon! It’ll likely be 3 bottles per member that can be allocated. We are expecting that Reserve Society members will take up the entire batch (around 1000 bottles to be released), but it’ll be on tap on occasion at The Bruery and a few festivals.”
From the Troegs Brewing March newsletter: “For those connecting the dots and wondering what’s happening with Rugged Trail Ale, we have some sad news to report. The last batch of Rugged Trail was brewed in mid-February and has been shipped from the brewery for the final time.” It was the brewery’s weak link and appears to have been replaced by Java Head Stout which shipped in 6-packs for the first time earlier this month.
From STL Hops: “[Schlafly American IPA] that was so popular at this past year’s Hop in the City will become available on June 1st of 2010. This beer will be available in six-packs at the same price point as the other Special Release beers (Pumpkin, Export IPA, Extra Dry Stout, etc.)”
From RateBeer: “This year marks the 50th Anniversary of the St. Louis and Stuttgart Sister Cities relationship. This milestone will be celebrated with the brewing of a collaborative beer. Schlafly Beer and the Stuttgart brewer, Calwer-Eck-Bräu, have collaborated on a recipe and each will brew a German beer style with an American twist: Dry-hopped Märzen.”
