“I’m pleased to let everyone know that we will be bottling Workhorse IPA on April 6th. It should be hitting the shelves in Oregon and Washington shortly after that. I hope you agree that this is pretty exciting. Workhorse has been a big hit at all our pubs since it was released in 2007. Since then it’s become our top selling beer and more importantly, one that a lot of folks tell us is their favorite IPA. Now I’ll be first to say that there are a lot of great IPAs out there. But I will admit that I think we’ve got something pretty unique in this beer.
While Workhorse rings in at 7.5% Alc. by Vol. and has nearly 80 IBUs, it remains drinkable. The trick, in my taste, is our focus on late addition hops that bring a lot of flavor and, more so, aroma to the beer than bitterness. While I like a hoppy beer, I remain mostly a fan of drinking beer. And in my opinion, some of the overly hopped, super bitter beers I’ve tried, while interesting, seem to lose sight of what it takes to be drinkable. Workhorse, I think you’ll agree, while a full fledged Northwest style IPA, doesn’t overwhelm the pallet and leaves plenty of room for tasting the beer(s) that come after. […]
