[5/3 Update: Mikkeller Frelser, Mikkeller I Beat yoU, Mikkeller 10 and Drink’in the Sun (draught only) will be arriving in the U.S. this month. Four different Mikkeller Barrel-Aged Black Hole beers arrive in “early May.”]
(Copenhagen, DENMARK) – U.S. label approval has come for another beer from the crazy Dane: Mikkeller Frelser.
Perhaps more so than any other brewer, I tend to lose track of Mikkeller. He pumps out a lot of different beers, all of which you can check out in my recent Mikkeller posts.
Frelser may be familiar to some Europe-based readers because this beer is already available there. Plenty of reviews have been posted up on RateBeer for your perusal. That said, the beer was actually on tap at Bierkraft in Brooklyn as of this weekend. 330 mL bottles will hit the U.S. later this year.
Beer description from the official website: “This Bock from Mikkeller is called Frelser. Means Savior in Danish. The name is a subtle reference to all Bocks Mother: Salvator. Originally the monks brewed Salvator because they needed a very strong and rich beer during Lent. Do not drink this beer instead of a meal, it contains 11% alcohol.”
Mikkeller 1000 IBU should be hitting the States fairly soon (no sightings yet). The beer drew some controversy a while back though Mikkel has posted up a statement up on the site clarifying the intent of the beer.
You can now follow brewery updates on Twitter.
1000 IBU is already in the states. They’ve had it at Blanchard’s in Allston for about a week, and I heard RI had it before then.
Yeah this one is I Beat yoU, a bit different. Haven’t seen 1000 IBU around here but haven’t been looking for it either. Too many options on shelves 🙂
