(O’Fallon, MO) – O’Fallon Brewery just got federal level approval on its new year-round beer, O’Fallon Hemp Hop Rye, scheduled for release in bottles this spring. The beer is available on tap now.
Here is the commercial description: “That’s right, there’s hemp in this smooth and polished-tasting amber ale. To be specific, we use hemp seed – one of the oldest and healthiest of ingredients – to create a subtle toasted nutty favor that compliments the hops and rye.
We use Cara Rye and Malted Rye for a subtle spiciness and rich ruby color and Victory Malt to tie together the flavors with a nuttiness that compliments the hemp seed flavor. German Hallertauer hops add seasoning and we finish with Cascade hops for a crisp citrus aroma and taste.
This wide assortment of flavors form a harmony together, creating a uniquely smooth and flavorful everyday beer that isn’t overwhelming.”
According to Evan Benn of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, “The feds make O’Fallon send them two independent lab results every time they bring in a new shipment of hemp seeds, to ensure there is zero THC content in them.” Sounds expensive. Hopefully they don’t have to do that very often.

This hemp hop rye stuff is AMAZING! I am a home brewer and am going to try to clone this stuff…if I can. Not sure how I can get hemp seeds. But WOW! No exaggeration, folks, this beer tastes more like excellent quality homebrew than anything I have ever had before. Exceptional. Give it a try – you will thank me later.
