Now recognized in the Iowa Wine and Beer guide, Peace Tree has also put Knoxville on the map for tourism and is already attracting customers from as far as Des Moines, Muscatine, Fort Dodge and Iowa City.

Eager to experience Knoxville’s only microbrews in a welcoming, professional setting, they will expand their hours to include Friday evenings and Saturday afternoons and evenings. They do not serve food but patrons are encouraged to order in from local restaurants, most of who deliver.

Since the beginning, Peace Tree Brewing Co. has welcomed the community of Knoxville and beyond to share in its development and relish its creations. The brewery opens its doors each Thursday, inviting the public to relax in the fully restored taproom to taste and discover all that Peace Tree has to offer. After their Grand Opening on March 19,

Each of the Peace Tree Brewing Company’s original beers is the creation of brewmaster, Joe Kesteloot. Since being tapped in early July, Kesteloot wasted no time developing tasty brews of all origins and varieties. Kesteloot brewed on a small 20 gallon test brewery to develop recipes and allow local consumers to do some taste testing. Dark stouts, farmhouse ales (one featured sweet corn), Pilsner, even an Orange Ale celebrating the Hawkeye’s Orange Bowl visit turned up in the process. Kesteloot was trained at the American Brewer’s Guild and was most recently the head brewer at Cold Spring Brewery in Minnesota. Since joining Peace Tree in July, he has been amazed at the outpouring of support for craft beer in Iowa. “I never expected the kind of response we are getting from small town Iowa. People are very willing to try new styles of beer and it has been exciting for me to share my craft.”

Peace Tree takes its name from a grand sycamore tree, now a lone stump in Lake Red Rock located north of Knoxville near the old town of Red Rock. With the vast majority of Iowa’s 23 breweries found in larger cities such as Des Moines, Dubuque, and Cedar Rapids, Peace Tree is a rarity ‐a vibrant microbrewery nestled in a small town. Yet there is nothing small about Peace Tree’s ambitions. The 20 barrel brewhouse features four fermenting tanks, is capable of brewing 3,720 gallons and four different beers simultaneously, and is prepared to begin filling and shipping bottles and kegs of their three signature beers: Red Rambler red ale, Rye Porter, Hop Wrangler 3 IPA, as well as their own traditional root beer. Additional seasonal beers will be released three to four times per year as well.

A beer isn’t just a beer. A truly great beer is the outcome of a myriad of tests, constantly tweaking the intricate process of brewing, and balancing the most delicate of flavors. Through this dedication to craft, Peace Tree Brewing Company has emerged at lightning speed with a collection of distinct and truly local brews set to sell throughout Iowa.
