(Woodlinville, WA) – Redhook Brewery will launch a new brew next month.
Here is some background on Redhook Big Ballard IPA: “In 1982, Redhook was born in a converted transmission shop in the Ballard Distric outside of Seattle, WA. This beer is inspired by one of Redhook’s original beers, Ballard Bitter IPA, first brewed in 1984. After twenty-six years of brewing, Redhook is paying homage to its roots by releasing Big Ballard IPA. Big Ballard has a rich, deep golden color and a very assertive hop character that hits you in the nose before reaching your lips. The flavor and aroma are balanced with complex malty undertones. While it has a friendly side, make no mistake – Big Ballard is brewed for diehard IPA fans.”
As for what beer critics think, in early tastings on RateBeer, it is being described as light and easy-drinking for an Imperial IPA.
There will be a Redhook Brewer’s Night (and Big Ballard release party) at Elephant & Castle in Seattle on Wednesday, April 14th (5-7pm).
Beer stats: 8.6% ABV, 73 IBU, 19.5 Deg. Plato
Big Ballard will be available in 22’s and on draft in 1/6 & 1/2 barrels.
I haven’t yet confirmed whether this is a one-off though I will find out and update the article. It appears to be limited to the Western states.
have been drinking this, the 841 expedition ale, & the new eisenbock for a few months at the woodinville location for the last few months. I gotta say all their newer beers are getting back to the basics…I will be writing a “redhook you don’t know” review series on these soon.
