(New Ulm, MN) – Two new beers are coming from The August Schell Brewery.
Schell’s Barrel-Aged Schmaltz’s Alt will kick off the new, limited Stag Series. Per the label, “The Stag Series draws upon our 150 years of brewing knowledge at the August Schell Brewery to create a collection of innovative, limited edition beers. The first release is our Schmaltz’s Alt beer that has been aged in red wine (specifically, pinot) barrels.”
According to David Berg, Schell’s Brewmaster, there was a bit of an accident at the brewery: “We have eleven 60-Gallon barrels. We had twelve. One leaked. It quit leaking when it was empty!” At least it wasn’t the other way around. Look for this in 22 oz. bottles (none will be available on draft).
There is also a new beer to be released under the Grain Belt line called Nordeast. This actually drops tomorrow. From the website:
“Grain Belt Nordeast is an American Amber lager and is the newest member to the Grain Belt Family. It has a light maltiness and hop aroma with a mild bitterness. Smooth taste with an excellent drinkability.
On Wednesday, April 7th at 8:00am, the first cases of Nordeast will be delivered to Surdyk’s Liquor store in Nordeast Minneapolis and will be available in 6 Packs, 12 Packs, and on draft. It will be available that day at every bar and liquor store in Nordeast Minneapolis only, and shipping everywhere else the following day.”
