Though I personally have no problem with it, the label pic for Upright Four Play is probably not safe for work so if you want to see it, you will have click “Continue On…”
(Portland, OR) – The following comes from Ezra at Upright Brewing:
“Upright Brewing is an artisan farmhouse style production brewery from Portland, OR specializing in French/Belgian inspired ales brewed with a Pacific NW twist. In their 1st year they were named Best New Brewery by The Oregonian and won the Satori Award for beer of the year from Beervana for their ‘Four’ farmhouse style wheat beer which makes up the base of the newest and most anticipated beer ‘Four Play‘ being released on the 1st anniversary Friday April 9th.
Four Play is a Belgian-style sour beer that has been aged since March of 09 in Pinot Noir barrels with an addition of cherry puree, lactobacillus and brettanomyces to sour and dry out the beer. It is very tart, dry and complex with wine-like subtleties of oak, pinot, wheat and sour cherries. The beer is extremely limited with only 5 kegs being produced and 80 cases of 750ml bottles available only at the brewery tasting room and with provocative artwork by Samurai Artist sure to turn heads and limit its availability.
Kir Jensen who is the owner of great dessert/cupcake cart The Sugar Cube is the model the label was based on and she will be at the release party with some of her tasty treats to be paired with Upright’s beers.
The draft only anniversary beer [Apricot Farmhouse Ale] is a simple recipe that uses nearly all pale malt and a pinch of wheat to let the yeast (our house French saison strain) express itself clearly. At the tail end of the fermentation about 300 pounds of apricot puree was added which was subsequently fermented out leaving the beer with a delicate fruity nose along with a tart and juicy flavor. The finish is dry and lasting making this beer a quenching beverage to break in Portland’s Spring season. 6% abv.”
for a guy who loves both beer and wine, Four Play has got me really excited! Friday can’t get here soon enough.
