From Amy Strauss of The Phoenix:
“Brian O’Reilly, award-winning brewmaster of Sly Fox Brewery and Restaurant, will pair up with distinguished brewers of the loved-and-local Yards’ Brewing Co., Victory Brewing Co., Stoudt’s Brewery and Troegs Brewery on Friday morning at Sly Fox’s Royersford location on North Lewis Road to jumpstart the production of the Philly Beer Week’s Collaboration Ale — a beer styled as an extra special bitter, an ESB.
The combined-effort brew will be first unveiled at Philly Beer Week’s Opening Tap event, held Fri., June 4, at Independence Visitor’s Center on 6th and Market Street in Philadelphia, with the city’s mayor, Michael Nutter, tapping the premier keg.”
From Ballast Point Brewing‘s most recent newsletter:
“It all began a good many years ago as an experimental homebrew. Former Ballast Point Brewmaster Pete A’Hearn wanted something fun to bring to the So-Cal Homebrew Fest in Temecula. Something different and special that would stand out amongst all the amazing variety spawned by the clever masses. And although it was (and still is) illegal to add illicit drugs to a beer, he wanted this beer to be as memorable and addicting as CRACK. And so was born Marion Berries Better-Than-A-Crackwhore Lambic.
Now over the years, the brew has undergone several tweaks, the most notable being the name (we didn’t even try to get ABC approval on that one). It is now known as Sour Wench Blackberry Ale. It isn’t, and really never was, a lambic but it is sour and super delicious. There are over one pound of blackberries per gallon of beer making it bright pink and really fruity. A treat that comes but once a year. We will debut this year’s version at both taster bars on Thursday May 6th.”
Red Brick Brewing Co. will soon release its Summer Ale:
“Summer is upon us and that means warmer weather and playing in the sun. What better way to cool down on a hot day than with a Red Brick Summer Brew? Our summer brew is a traditional, unfiltered German Style Hefeweizen. Winner of the 2008 Global Warming Open, a context sponsored by the national publication Ale Street News, judging it to be the best beer to drink on a hot day. We will be having a Summer Ale Release party on Wednesday, May 12th from 5pm toll 8pm.”
Foothills Maibock returns:
“The award-winning Gruffmeister Maibock, a classic German-style pale bock, is back on tap. Named for the fiercest billy goat in the famous German fairy tale, the Gruffmeister is 8% ABV and dangerously drinkable, with hints of lightly toasted bread, strawberry and grass balanced by a floral, lemony dryness. Aside from being absurdly tasty, the Gruffmeister also has a proven track record for vanquishing angry, bridge-guarding trolls.
(Our April seasonal, the Hurricane Hefeweizen, is also still on tap for a limited time.)”
From East End Brewing‘s latest newsletter:
“Nooner Scottish Ale and Snow Melt have both kicked for the season, East End Witte and Wheat Hop are now on tap, Pedal Pale Ale will be released on May 14th (no duh!), and bottles of Illustration Ale will be ready for an early June release. New Growler Covers, Beer Soap, and Big Hop bike jerseys are all on the way – and later this summer, we’re jamming another fermenter into the building!” The group bike ride is coming up soon as well.
