(Boston, MA) – This August, Harpoon Brewery‘s Leviathan Series will come full circle.

[6/7 Update: Harpoon passed through new labels with the ABV changed from 14.3 to 11.5% in line with the newer version as opposed to the original version.]

Two years ago, Harpoon started a new series of limited beers in line with the “extreme” trend at the time. The launch beer for this collection known as the Leviathan Series was called Triticus but it was only available on tap. That will change this coming August as Triticus finally joins the other Leviathan Series beers with its own 12 oz. four-pack. It will be the first bottling of this beer since its entry as a 100 Barrel Series beer (#10) many moons ago. Supplies are expected to last into November.

Here is more background on the brew:

“Latin for ‘wheat,’ Triticus is a strong and dark wheat wine-style ale that boasts 11.5% alcohol-by-volume. The blend of 50% wheat malts, including caramel and chocolate, provides color and depth of flavor. Complex hopping and dry-hopping lends a delicate spiciness and just enough balance to complement its strength. Once brewed, the Triticus was transferred to 50-gallon bourbon barrels and aged at the brewery for over 2 months.

Harpoon originally brewed Triticus in 2005 with guest brewers Jason and Todd Alstrom, founders of BeerAdvocate.com, as part of Harpoon’s 100 Barrel Series. In a nod to the Alstroms, Leviathan Triticus will debut at the next weekend’s American Craft Beer Fest at the Seaport World Trade Center. The ACBF is the largest craft beer festival produced in the Northeast with more than 75 craft brewers pouring a variety of 300 beers.”

Leviathan beers are generally brewed in 120 barrel batches though that hasn’t been confirmed for this brew. Watch for it in bottles and kegs later this summer. Harpoon Leviathan Barleywine is scheduled to follow it in November along with Leviathan Baltic Porter which will be returning. Available beginning this month is a new batch of Leviathan Bohemian Pilsner.
