(Akron, OH) – Ohio-based Hoppin’ Frog gets ready for a new release to cure the summer doldrums (and for local basketball fans, drown those sorrows over the imminent departure of LeBron).

The brewery reports on Facebook last night, “We are preparing for the release of our Turbo Shandy Citrus Ale around mid June. Alcohol 7% by volume. – Born from European tradition, our Shandy is a refreshing combination of lemon and light malt flavors. Unlike traditional shandys, Turbo Shandy, revs it up a couple of notches with a high test, full flavored approach as only Hoppin’ Frog can do.”

Here is some background on this style from Wikipedia:

“In the United Kingdom, Shandy is beer mixed with carbonated lemonade. It may be purchased as a low alcohol soda or mixed at a bar to create a drink of 2 to 3.5% ABV.

Fentimans, of Hexham, markets a lemonade-based Shandy made of a 70% – 30% mixture of beer and carbonated lemonade rated at 0.5 ABV (1 proof). It is available in the United States through Lion Brewery, Inc.

A strong version of Shandy is lager 80% to carbonated lemonade 20%, known as a Lager Top.”

Turbo Shandy Specs: 7% ABV, 58 OG (14.3 Deg Plato), 7.3 IBU, 22 oz. bottle
