(Chippewa Falls , WI) – Leinenkugel’s plans to bring back one of its Big Eddy beers for the first time in three years.

[10/15 Update: The beer will return on Nov. 1st per City Pages.]

Bike for Beer reports, “After speaking with Reid Wilson, a Brand Manager for MillerCoors (owners of Leinenkugels Brewery), I was informed that Leinenkugels will reintroduce their Big Eddy Russian Imperial Stout in four-packs beginning this winter on a much larger scale than in 2007 [when the beers were first released].”

Both Big Eddy RIS and Big Eddy Imperial IPA have earned critical acclaim among beer raters; these are the two highest-rated products in all of Leinenkugel’s portfolio. No word yet on Imperial IPA also making a return . . .

The label description reads, “Our brewery was born on the Big Eddy Spring in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. Its waters guiding us through five generations of genuine brewing heritage. [Big Eddy is] dark and complex with 11 malts and grains balanced by three different and distinct hops. 9.5% ABV.”

  1. A well made beer is a well made beer. You may not like the main products BMC put out but they are there because there is a market and they wouldn’t have been made if there weren’t a demand for light, nearly tasteless beer. It’s incredibly hard to make beer that light that doesn’t taste truly foul.

I tasted one of the test batches for the new RIS (still in the fermenter) and it is outstanding, better than the first go around. I wish they’d redo the IIPA. Recently had a growler that was stashed in a basement for the last three years. It was still awesome.
