(Baltimore, MD) – There is a lot happening at Charm City’s Stillwater Artisanal Ales. Here is an update from Stillwater’s Brian Strumke.
“Two collaborations under way . . . first one is with Oliver Ales in Baltimore, blending aspects of English and Belgian brewing to create what we call a ‘Belgian Bitter.’ A blend of Belgian and UK malts, hopped with plenty of Nobles and fermented with Stillwater Saison yeast in open fermenters. The collaboration name is Cross Channel Series Vol.1 – Belgian Bitter. Half of the batch will go into casks, some oaked, other dryhopped, and some spiced. The rest will be in draft and will be distributed in MD, DC, Philly, and NYC.
The other is with Voodoo Brewery in Meadville, PA. We were paired up by our common Philly distributor Bella Vista, in order to craft a beer for Philly Beer Week. The outcome was a strong (8%) black wheat ale brewed with pureed raisins, hibiscus, juniper, rose hips, and Schisandra berries. This will make its debut at the Bella Vista event at Devils Den on June 4, the beginning of Philly Beer Week. Some will also make it’s way into the MD / DC area, but limited.
Last but not least is the first seasonal in the Stateside Series. Following the success of the flagship Stateside Saison we present a lovely summer quaffer titled ‘Cellar Door.’ A wheat based saison brewed with citra & sterling hops finished off with white sage. The initial batch will be draft and cask only, finding it’s way to MD, DC, Philly, and NYC. Batch #2 of Stateside Saison will also hit the shelves soon and we are expanding our bottle market.”
