(Atlanta, GA) – Just shy of the 30th anniversary from when Magnum, P.I. first aired, SweetWater Brewing has brewed a beer that will pay tribute to the 80s television series.

It was the show that made Tom Selleck a household name and made mustaches cool again. (or were they always cool back then? Lacking some context here . . .). According to Wikipedia, Magnum, P.I. had a mostly-successful tenure airing in primetime from 1980 to 1988. It was a crime drama set in Hawaii that has been rumored to be adapted as a movie for the last several years.

Though Hollywood producers have dropped the ball, SweetWater Brewing is ready to pick up the slack with a new tribute beer to be released as part of the Dank Tank Series next month. The beer is aptly titled, “Magnum I.P.

I have no idea what the end of this passage means but here is what the sales sheet (courtesy of SweetWater) says, “At 100 IBUs and 9% ABV, this hairy chested Imperial Pilsner is guaranteed to rev up the Ferrari and take you on a mustache ride. Medium bodied like Rick [Orville Wilbur Richard “Rick” Wright] and crisp like TC [Theodore Calvin], this IP’s short shorts on the sea shore sfit shnug on the 2 lbs. per barrel of Cascade and Sterling hops shimmied shupon shis shucker.”

Look for this in 22 oz. bottles in June.

Beer Stats:
Malts: Pilsner, Munich, Vienna
Hops: Sterling, Cascade
Yeast: Pilsner
Original Gravity: 22.5 Plato
Final Gravity: 5 Plato
