Drake’s to release Denogginizer Double IPA bombers

Denogginizer-10

(San Leandro, CA) – Drake’s Brewing dropped an interesting nugget in its latest newsletter.

The brewery announced that it is now able to bottle 22 oz. bombers and is starting things off very soon with a heavy hitting favorite, Drake’s Denogginizer Double IPA.

“Silver medal winner, Imperial India Pale Ale, 2009 Great American Beer Festival. A Double IPA, Denogginizer is a big bold beer hopped with an abundant amount of Simcoe and Columbus, with a touch of Amarillo and Cascade. Mashed with Munich and Crystal malt for color and flavor . . . and to balance out the hop assault.

Drake’s ales are urban-brewed at the former Caterpillar powerhouse in industrial San Leandro, California. Our brewery is more gritty than pretty, but with great hops and barley malt, our talented brewers have been turning out unique and delicious beers here for over 20 years.” 9.75% ABV. 90 IBUs.

A medal winner coming to bottles . . . great! But wait just a minute. The site’s current beer description reads: “Denogginizer is a big bold beer hopped with an abundant amount of Simcoe and Amarillo with a touch of Ahtanum and Chinook. Mashed with Crystal malt and Caramalt for color and flavor to help balance out the hop assault.”

There is such a thing as substituting similar ingredients but it looks like there have been wholesale changes made to this recipe. It begs the question as to whether this is really the same beer that won the brewery a GABF medal.

In any case, watch for 22 oz. bottles to arrive at the brewery and NorCal retail shops at the end of the month.
