(Chicago, IL) – Goose Island Beer Co. recently got label approval for a new fall release, Lolita.
[10/28 Update: From Brewmaster, Gregory Hall’s Twitter account, “Just tasted Lolita, BCS Vanilla and BCS Rare. All beautiful and ready to go. Vanilla in bottle next week JIT for FOBAB.”]
The brewery, perhaps more aggressively than any other, is championing the concept of “bringing beer to the table” instead of its rival, wine. For a glimpse at the brewery’s positioning in the marketplace, look no further than its line of Belgian-style ales featuring, dare I say, ‘elegant’ label design.
Goose Island will add this as the sixth beer in that collection in October. It is one of three that are (or will be) available in only the NYC and Chicago markets (in 22 oz. bottles). The others are last year’s debut, Juliet, coming in June and Madame Rose, which will be released in July.
Here is what I dug up up on Lolita when GI first released its 2010 schedule: “[Per RateBeer, this is a ‘Belgian-styled tart raspberry beer aged in 6-13 year old Heaven Hill bourbon barrels.’ One tidbit from Timeout Chicago: ‘Lolita was barrel-aged with Schaarbeek cherries, a type of fruit previously unavailable outside Belgium—until Hall asked Seedling Fruit’s Peter Klein to grow 30 of the trees for him.’ The brewery also worked with Seedling Fruit on a special version of its Matilda last January.” It measures at 7% ABV.
[Update: Timeout NY indicates that the raspberries are now sourced from Mick Klug Farms though Seedling Fruit still supplies fruit for other beers such as Madame Rose.]
In other GI news, look for Goose Island Fleur to debut sometime in the next month.
Lolita? Shouldn’t this be a *small* beer?
