(New Orleans, LA) – June 2010- NOLA Brewing has paired up with Faucheaux’s Farm in Luling, Louisiana and it appears to be a match made in cow heaven! Clayton Faucheax, the owner of Faucheaux’s Farm, picks up NOLA Brewing’s spent grain, which he then uses to feed his cows. NOLA’s Brewmaster Peter, sought out a local farmer who was in need of spent grain before the brewery even opened and has been providing Clayton with spent grain ever since.

The partnership between breweries and farmers is a common practice in the brew industry and is a win-win situation for everyone involved. The farmer gets free feed for his livestock and the brewery saves money and the hassle of trying to dispose grain they no longer have use for. The grain passed to the farmers is composed of malted barley used as the sugar source in the beer making procedure. For NOLA, the partnership with Faucheaux Farm is a huge step in the “Green” direction. Instead of paying to dispose of the spent grain, it is being recycled and reused by Clayton and his cows.

The NOLA team had the opportunity of visiting the Faucheaux Farm to see how the cows they had been feeding were doing and were excited by the news. Clayton gushed about how incredible the difference was in his calves since he had started feeding them the NOLA grain. Before teaming up with NOLA the cows only ate grass and the vitamins Clayton provided them, but since feeding them spent grain provided by NOLA, the cows are much healthier and more active. Clayton is convinced that his cows’ excellent health is in thanks to their new diet.

Melanie explained “I had never seen such beautiful cows in my life!” Clayton who has been feeding the cows NOLA grain for well over a year is amazed on what it has done for his animals. “They are happy,” said Clayton “and enjoy the feed immensely.” Whoever said “Happy cows come from California,” never met the NOLA Brewing cows!

The cows aren’t the only happy ones in this partnership. NOLA Brewing has developed a very strong relationship with Clayton and his family. Melanie explains, “It is a very fulfilling relationship because we are all helping each other out and at the same time helping ourselves. The gratitude is reciprocated 100%.” NOLA Brewing continues to strive at living by a green initiative and will continue to look for opportunities to recycle, reuse and repurpose.
