(Milton, DE) – A bunch of Dogfish Head tidbits to get you through your Monday . . .
First, on the BREWED front . . . there is more sad news that I didn’t report yet (though it’s over two weeks old at this point). Not only is BREWED not airing until at least January but DelawareOnline.com reported earlier this month that it will only be a six-episode run. Six! Still better than no show at all and hopefully there will be an opportunity to rally for the show to come back for an extended run (and hopefully these are 1-hour episodes confirmed 1 hour episodes). If I had to guess, based on the article, the programming will go something like . . .
1) Introduce Milton brewery, brewpubs & Miles Davis beer
2) Egypt (ancient brew?)
3) New Zealand (with Epic Beer)
4) Peru (ancient brew?)
5) Italy (with Eataly Birreria crew)
6) Eataly Birreria in NYC
DFH’s Sam Calagione has also said that the show will feature “Allagash, Stone, Victory, Russian River, Epic (NZ) and Sierra [Nevada].” It sounds like part of one of the episodes will be devoted to the Saison du BUFF collaboration. Not sure how the others will get squeezed in but it’s good to see that other American craft brewers will get airtime.
Having just undergone a major expansion recently, according to Mariah Calagione, the brewery is planning on adding even more capacity. Already at 30% growth annually at this point, that will probably increase next year with the airing of the tv series. It might be a stretch but it’s possible at this rate that DFH moves into the top 10 craft breweries by 2012.
Speaking of Saison du BUFF . . . the final version of the collaboration with Stone Brewing and Victory Brewing got label approval. This one was brewed At Dogfish Head’s facility already and is scheduled to arrive in 12 oz. single bottles next month.
Finally, the DFH blog reports on two new Brewpub Exclusives. Birra Romana was tapped on Friday. This one is described as a “Black Saison, a 4.5% abv brewed with chocolate and black malts, lemon peel and New Zealand Southern Cross hops. This beer is lighter in body than the opaque ruby almost black color would suggest. Slightly spicy with a delicious malt profile balances this brew. Birra Romana was the creation of the Quality Control team from our Milton brewery. They designed this beer to be enjoyed as is or as a dark and tan floated over 90 IPA. […]
Bryan Selders has been very busy keeping our brewpub exclusives coming fast and furious with the release of Zeno 2.0 about a week away. It is conditioning as I type this and will be ready to go on or about July 26th. Ryehoboth will make its annual summer appearance in a few weeks. This year we have changed the recipe slightly and added orange peel, coriander and whole leaf galena hops to the boil. Keep an eye out for this summer quencher towards the end of July.”
Is this Saison du Buff the same beer that Stone put out? It’s definitely an unusual Saison but I quite enjoyed it.
I’m guessing it’s the same recipe.
