(Asheville NC) – This year’s Highland Cup Winner has received label approval.

Per the label, “We are proud to present homebrewer, Brandon Dana’s Kolsch Style Ale as best of show in the third annual Highland Cup. This beer will be entered into the 2010 Great American Beer Festival’s Pro-Am Competition held in September and will only be sold in North Carolina.

Unlike its classic lager cousins, this Kolsch Style ale is top fermented at warmer temperatures and then cold conditioned. This process melds the sweetness of the Pilsner malt with the mild bittering of Sterling hops to create a delightfully balanced session beer. It has a golden straw color with a slightly floral nose. This Kolsch Style ale is best enjoyed served at cellar temperatures alone or as a complement to salads, aromatic cheeses, and other delicate dishes.”

Last year’s winner was Big Butte Smoked Porter. Watch for this one in 22’s later this year, likely around the time of the GABF.
