(Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) – A craft beer veteran is firing up its bottle line after a long hiatus.
In 1986, Penn Brewery became one of less than 100 craft breweries in the U.S. Recently, the brewery has been contracting its beers out to the nearby Lion Brewery but that’s changing.
Penn Founder, Tom Pastorius, shared his plans with the Pittsburgh Business Times yesterday:
“Along with its flagship brands [Penn Pilsner, Penn Dark and Penn Weizen], Penn plans to begin bottling the first cases of Penn Oktoberfest next week, followed by the brewery’s latest beer brand, Allegheny Pale Ale in early August.
Pastorius said the company’s “new, European-made double pre-evacuation bottle filler gives us very low oxygen levels in the bottles which ensures longer shelf life. We want our customers to know that this is as good as it gets and as always at Penn Brewery, product quality is the top priority.”
Today, Penn is one of over 1,600 craft breweries . . . a slightly different craft beer market than the one that it joined nearly 25 years ago.
