(Aberdeen, SCOTLAND) – A mainstream Scottish news site put up a story about a new record-breaking beer from BrewDog just a couple hours ago. It’s since been taken down.
[7/22 Update: BrewDog The End of History . . . is real.]
Unfortunately, Google didn’t cache the article before it bit the dust but there are a few tidbits out there:
“The Fraserburgh brewery has unveiled their 55% ABV The End of History tipple priced at a staggering £500 a bottle. Only 12 bottles of the blond Belgian ale […] Company co-founder, James Watt commented: “In true BrewDog fashion we’ve torn up convention, blurred distinctions and pushed brewing and beer packaging to its absolute limits. This is the beer to end all beers. It’s an audacious blend of eccentricity, artistry and rebellion; changing the general perception of beer one stuffed animal at a time.”
You read that correct. The article reports that there are only 12 bottles of this one available and each is stuffed inside an animal. “Pushing beer packaging to its absolute limits” is an understatement.
Some are wondering whether this is a hoax but Watt promised earlier in the week that big news is coming on Thursday. It seems more plausible that this is a leak rather than a hoax but we’ll find out for sure tomorrow.
If it’s a leak, the damage has already been done. Long threads had already taken shape on Beer Advocate and RateBeer this afternoon. Shortly after asking people to contact them with more information about the story, BA management deleted the thread. Conspiracy theorists might suggest that someone got to them as well.
