(New York, NY) – First it was The Discovery Channel, then The History Channel, and now it appears that The Food Network is getting into the act.
A little over two weeks ago, an interesting email made the rounds on a couple beer forums from a casting agent:
“Hi there, My name is Alena Jemas and I’m a casting producer for a popular lifestyle network. We are currently conducting a nationwide search to find someone with a vast knowledge and passion for beer brewing for a potential new show, and I thought your members might be interested. We’re looking for someone who is charismatic, witty, engaging and has lots of experience under his or her belt. If you–or someone you know–would be a good fit, feel free to contact us at foodhostcasting ~ AT ~ gmail.com. Please include the following details: -Name -Occupation -Contact Information -Recent photograph -Link to a blog/video (if applicable) -A short summary, detailing experience with brewing beer I’ve attached a flyer with further information. Feel free to pass it along to anyone who might be interested! Best, Alena Jemas Casting Producer alenajemascasting ~ AT ~ gmail.com.”
The agent didn’t say who she was working with but a quick Google search reveals that she works for The Food Network. That now makes three prominent cable television networks interested in a show featuring craft beer in some capacity. The Discovery Channel has already announced a series and The History Channel is expected to air a pilot episode that it filmed yesterday this coming fall (assuming all went well).
In addition, The Beer Nut mentioned yesterday that a tv crew did some filming at Cambridge Brewing Company in Boston back in February. Here’s a snippet of the email that CBC sent out way back:
“CBC has been chosen as the location for the pilot episode of a new show about beer and food that (If it makes the cut) will be a regular show on a Major Frickin’ Television Network (Which I’m not allowed to mention here). So what’s the show all about? Think ‘No Reservations’ but with beer and beer cuisine. The host will travel around the country (and ultimately the world) each week and feature a brewery, brew pub or restaurant that’s doing something really cool with beer and food.”
The show description sounds along the lines of Sam Calagione’s show on The Discovery Channel. This is all still developing but something to watch over the coming weeks.
That latter show sounds like Zane Lamprey’s gigs.
Crossing my fingers that at least one of these other networks picks something up because BREWED is only 6 eps.
Sent off an email, fwiw…television needs more small BJCP judges!
For our part, we’re working to develop some fun, smart programming to join these folks on the air and on the internet. Come check out our 2 part webisodes BEERdinner @ http://www.youtube.com/yourbeernetwork

Garrett Oliver needs to be the host of one of these shows.
That’s awesome! Man, the Budweiser channel is going to be ticked. Oh wait, no one ever cared enough to get that one off the ground…
