Terrapin taps Sound Czech as next Georgia Theatre Sessions brew

Terrapin Sound Czech

(Athens, GA) – Another approval has come in for Terrapin Beer Co.‘s Georgia Theatre Sessions.

The aptly titled Sound Czech, a Czech-style Pilsner, will be introduced next month as the third beer in this four-part series. A portion of the proceeds from each beer (22 oz. bottles) goes toward the restoration of the theater which is expected to re-open by next summer. This beer, in particular, plays to the musical side of the theater’s history. Here’s more from the label:

“Lounging in a mish-mash of chairs crammed into the tiny Georgia Theatre dressing room, headliners waited for sounds check. That time when thrumming guitar chords, tinkling keys and tinny high hats issued from the stage through the cavernous theatre. Before dancing feet crowded the wood floors and the walls pulsed with music, entertainers from B.B. King and the B-52s to The Ramones, The Police and Athens legends R.E.M. and Widespread Panic, played New Wave, rock, punk, country, jazz and the blues to an empty room that still smelled of the last show. Sound Czech is the third headliner in Terrapin’s Georgia Theatre Sessions, a Czech-style Pilsner that will have you hopping to the music.”

The Athens Banner-Herald featured an in-depth article on Terrapin Beer Co. artwork with some details on the GTS labels. Terrapin and the Georgia Theatre commissioned a PR firm called Jackson Spaulding to do the job:

“Graphic designer Lucia Hale – whose work can be found on the label of the Double Feature beer – said it was decided early on that each of the four specialty brews would have something in common.

‘Everyone was excited we got this project,’ Hale, whose colleagues Brian Steely, Jessie Starke and Mark Miller designed the other Georgia Theatre labels for Terrapin. ‘One of the things we were concerned about was, we’ll have four different labels – how can we have consistent branding within the labels?

‘After meeting with the team, we decided to have the Georgia Theatre masthead as the consistent element that would be on all of the labels and on the packaging and then have the area underneath it an open space to give creative freedom to do what the beer name inspired. You’ll see the designs vary from label to label, but all have that consistent Georgia Theatre branding.'”

Hoptaneous Combustion Imperial IPA will round out the series in December.
