(Williamsport, PA) – Bavarian Barbarian and the Bullfrog Brewery will release a collaboration called GOTHIKA next month.
As you can see, the brewers are having some fun with the storytelling for this beer:
Per YouTube, “Two tragic brewers brew an experimental beer using an ancient, mysterious recipe. After the beer is brewed, horrible things begin to happen and the brewers discover that the recipe was a medieval witches’ brew intended for the Devil himself. Soon the brewers and all those around them become criminally insane Satan worshippers consumed by bloodlust and human sacrifice to their Dark Master.
As a precaution, the Bavarian Barbarian and the Bullfrog Brewery have taken out additional insurance policies substantial enough to institutionalize anyone who goes completely insane from drinking Gothika – for the rest of their lives!”
A press release over at My Beer Buzz gives more info on the beer itself, “Terry Hawbaker of Bullfrog Brewery and Mike Hiller from Bavarian Barbarian have created a 9% ABV beer of demonic proportions. What started out as a simple black lager, or schwarzbier, quickly grew into a Gothic nightmare. As if swept away by shadowy inspirations, the two tragic brewers combined the darkest of Bavarian brewing traditions with an American devil-may-care attitude. First came the darkness of a Bavarian schwarzbier, but unsatisfied by the meager alcohol content Hawbaker and Hiller decided to increase its potency to that of a German dopplebock beer.” The beer is then aged in bourbon barrels. This will be released only on tap.
Some may recognize Hiller as the man who started the infamous Beer Advocate-RateBeer thread at ProBrewer this summer.
