(Dexter, MI) – Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales is about to release a new beer.

Here’s some info on the beer from a press release posted earlier this summer:

Biere de Goord, a saison brewed with kale, pumpkin seeds, pumpkin and green tea, was made by Jolly Pumpkin to help raise awareness about prostate cancer and generate funds for the Pints for Prostates campaign. The Rare Beer of the Month Club has joined the effort by making the beer one of its selections during National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month in September. Shelton Brothers, which handles Jolly Pumpkin, is donating its services to the effort.

The beer will feature the Pints for Prostates logo on its label, which includes the blue ribbon to remind people of the ongoing search for a cure to prostate cancer, a leading cause of death among American men. A donation of $3 from every 750 milliliter bottle of Biere de Goord sold will be made to the Pints for Prostates campaign.

Well, September is here and the time for this beer has come. According to Northern United Brewing Co. Vice President Sales, Mike Turriff, “We are sending around 80 cases to the rare beer of the month club for sales to their members [those shipped to Club HQ yesterday]. We will also be selling around 20 cases through our pubs.” There is one slight change from the press release and that is that the beer will be released next Friday, September 17th at 4pm. Turriff notes that, though this could change, bottle limit will be two per person.

In other news, La Parcela returns to the pubs beginning today. Shipping to Michigan wholesalers starts next week and shipping to out-of-state wholesalers starts the week of 9/20. Says Turriff on Beer Advocate, “One of the things we wanted to do this year was make an effort to spread the love on our seasonal beers. As a result we have in many cases brewed seasonals tenfold vs. last year. For example we brewed 2 batches (approx 18 barrels) of La Parcela last year. This year we brewed 13 batches (almost 120 barrels).”

Finally, when asked about other seasonal brews . . . “Fuego del Otono will be produced this year but only for the state of Michigan. Biere de Mars is a victim of barrel time. What I mean is that it ages for a minimum of 2 months on oak before we bottle it and we don’t have the oak or space to have more than a couple of batches every year age the proper amount of time. There is a possibility of expanding production on both Fuego and Biere de Mars in the future but I would not count on it until 2012 at the earliest.”

Here’s Brewmaster, Ron Jeffries, talking about La Parcela…
