(Middlebury, VT) – Otter Creek Brewery will introduce Alpine Black IPA in bottles beginning this fall.
From a tip sheet received this afternoon:
Otter Creek Brewery is planning to expand its visitor center into a full service pub. OCB is in the process of attaining a new Department of Liquor Control license to enable the Visitor Center to transition from a tasting room to a full service bar and restaurant. Details on the transition will become available in the coming months. We continue to gradually improve our facility to elevate product quality and customer satisfaction.
Otter Creek will be releasing their newest addition to the brew line up on October 1, 2010.
The Alpine Black IPA made its debut at the Vermont Brewers Festival in Burlington, Vermont in July. It was intended to be a one-off pilot batch and quickly evolved into an instant favorite. To appease demand we have decided to release it as our new Otter Creek Winter Seasonal. Those who attended the VBF were lucky to get a sneak tasting of this incredible brew. Since then it has been the buzz around town.
Beer Stats:
Style: Black IPA
ALC/VOL: 6.0%
IBU: 60
Malts: 2-Row, Caramel 60L, Carafa III
Hops: Apollo, Centennial, Citra
Description: “Dark in color and character, this unfiltered Black IPA exudes caramel and roasted notes while highlighting a bold hop bitterness and citrus aroma. Apollo, centennial, and citra hops intermingle with the deep complexities provided by copious amounts of caramel malts and de-husked roasted barley.”
In addition to Alpine Black IPA, be on the lookout for Wolaver’s Alta Gracia Coffee Porter which will return for a second year.
Beer Stats:
Style: Coffee Porter
ALC/VOL: 5.7%
IBU: 28
Malt: Organic 2-Row, Organic Caramel 60L, Organic Wheat Malt, Organic Black Malt, Organic Chocolate Malt
Hops: Organic Magnum
Other: Organic Alta Gracia Coffee, Organic Vanilla Beans
Description: “Alta Gracia Coffee Porter is an exceptionally smooth and flavorfully complex beer that is available for the winter season. Once again we have teamed up with Vermont Coffee Company to import approximately 500 lbs of organically grown coffee. One pound of coffee per barrel provides a powerful coffee flavor and aroma which is easily balanced by the healthy addition of dark malts. The organic vanilla beans contribute a sweetness and smoothness that finishes off this intricate brew.”

I recommend this delicious brew to anyone who likes quality tasting beer. I was introduced to it inadvertently and has quickly become my favorite brew. I like all of the otter creek products, but his one is top shelf. Its smooth, has good character, and 100% delightful. If you can find some, (not easy) definitely get some.
Hey does anyone know where to buy this in Western MA? I went to a local store that has pretty much everything but didn’t see it on the shelves.
Hi Tara,
Call the brewery & they should tell you who the distributor is for your area that delivers the beer to your area stores. They may be able to help answer that. I believe this was released a while ago so not sure it’s still available.
