(Escondido, CA) – Homebrewer Alex Tweet’s creative Foreign Export Spiced Stout has been named the winner of Holiday Wine Cellar’s Second Annual Homebrew Competition, topping 150-submissions from more than 90 brewers.

“It was very difficult to narrow down the top beers due to the extremely high level of talent that was showcased,” says Jordan Wilson, beer buyer for Holiday Wine Cellar. Wilson says the winning brewer, Alex Tweet, ” hands down impressed and wowed all the judges with his one of a kind recipe and perfectly executed beer. We are very excited about this year’s recipe and can’t wait for everyone to try it.”

The unusual recipe, judged in the India Export Stout, Foreign Export Spiced Stout category, sat in secondary fermentation with the hot madra curry, toasted coconut, unsweetened coconut, red pepper, cumin, Tea and Kaffir Lime leaves. A panel of eleven judges were individually assigned style categories that were then narrowed down to about 20 beers, from which the winner was selected.

The recipe will be brewed commercially by local microbrewery and distiller, Ballast Point Brewing Company, winners of multiple awards in highly-regarded beer competitions across the country. The beer will be available in bottles exclusively at Holiday Wine Cellar and on draft at better beer bars across Southern California.
