Captain Lawrence releases were a hoax

(Pleasantville, NY) – Earlier today I re-posted information that I found here on Beer Advocate posted by a veteran user of three years regarding upcoming Captain Lawrence releases. I’ve seen a posting like this once or twice before that didn’t hit my personal inbox and figured that it must’ve been sent to some exclusive/distributor list. Sorry to disappoint but apparently the re-posted email, which was written to look exactly like those that CLB’s Scott Vaccaro have written in the past, was completely bogus. It was up for almost a full day and received over 1,500 hits before being caught by the brewery. 98% of the time you can take secondhand info from a brewery posted on a message board for face value but this was not one of those times. I regret not fact-checking and apologize to the folks at Captain Lawrence, Beer Advocate and readers for proliferating a false story.

Kudos to the trickster as well. If being the mastermind behind false beer info on the internet is what you live for, you can die happy now.
