Lost Abbey Update: Veritas 008, 4th Annual Barrel Night, Amazing Grace

lost-abbey-veritas(San Marcos, CA) – There is a lot going on in San Marcos next month…

Before you stuff the Thanksgiving turkey, there are two events to watch out for if you’re going to be anywhere near The Lost Abbey around mid-November.

Working backwards, on Saturday, November 20th, the brewery has tentatively planned the release of both Cuvee de Tomme and Amazing Grace. The release date for CdT has already been changed a few times and the yield is lower than initially expected meaning that the beer will not be distributed. Amazing Grace, the result of Lost and Found aged in wine barrels for two years, will also be a brewery-only release. Those two beers will be available beginning at noon.

On Saturday, November 13th, the brewery will hold its 4th annual barrel night for which tickets went on sale today ($80/each or $150/pair). “Join brewmaster Tomme Arthur as he once again ventures into the legendary Lost Abbey barrel archives for an intimate evening of exploration into the mysteries of barrel-aged brews. Limited to 125 guests, in addition to experiencing some of the world’s most coveted beers, attendees will also enjoy hors d’ oeuvres prepared by Lost Abbey chef in residence, Vince Marsaglia, and receive a bottle of our new Veritas release, 008.”

For some background on Veritas 008, here is the scoop from Lost Abbey Media Liaison, Sage Osterfeld. Outside of the 125 bottles to be released that night, there will only be one keg for that event and a few to send around to the Stone Brewing World Bistro and Gardens and other local venues. That’s all of it. This batch of Veritas 008 is a larger batch of a T.E.A. (or “traditional experimental ale”) that was sent to Stone earlier this summer. The base beer is Mellow Yellow (a.k.a. wine barrel-soured Port Amigo Mexican Lager) with a blend of teas from the Republic of Tea and Lemon Zest.

As explained by Osterfeld, Veritas beers start out as a T.E.A. (a fancy name for a pilot batch typically around 15 gallons). If Tomme Arthur & Co. like the resulting Veritas beer enough and resources allow for it, they’ll consider brewing another batch on a larger scale. To date, only Veritas 006 has been re-released (as Framboise de Amarosa). That beer originally started out as a T.E.A. known as “Sangria.”

Osterfeld also hinted that there will be a TEA party of sorts on Election Night for which info should be available tomorrow (Thursday).

Finally, if your schedule doesn’t coincide with the above events and you’re visiting The Lost Abbey sometime in the next month, the brewery updated the vintage bottle list for the taproom today.
