News on craft beer in cans slowed down in September but has picked up in the last few weeks. Here’s the latest…
…Crazy Mountain Brewery got approval for its Amber Ale this week. The brewery opened in Colorado last month and it is expected that cans should land this month. They are manufactured in nearby Broomfield. As for other styles that the brewery is opening up with…pale ale, Belgian ale, India pale ale, a black ale, a saison and seasonal/small batch beers.
…Two other new breweries plan to can their beers when they open in 2011: Austin Beerworks in Texas and Finch’s Beer in Chicago (hat tip to CraftCans).
…Short’s Brewing is undergoing a $1.4 million expansion that will take it to 22,000 barrels capacity, MLive reports. Production will be at 8,000 barrels for the year, up from 6,000 last year (New Brewer June ’10). It sounds like they will eventually get a canning line though it could be a while.
…This weekend, a hundred or so beer bloggers flocked to Boulder for the inaugural Beer Bloggers Conference. One of the things learned? Oskar Blues Head Brewer, Dave Chichura, said this weekend that the brewery is headed toward around 42-43k barrels produced in 2010 (as reported by Jennifer Litz of Girls’ Pint Out). That’s an increase of about 44% off its 29.5k tally last year (New Brewer June ’10).
…Another tidbit learned: Ferment Nation reports that Boulder Beer Co. will be replacing its canning line and offering Hazed and Infused cans nationally after it happens. The introduction of cans has not adversely affected bottle sales.
…Drink Eat Travel let the cat out of the bag: The Alchemist will soon be canning its beer for the locals. It seems to be corroborated by a recent mention on The Alchemist website that it has a big announcement coming soon.
…Finally, Utah Beer says that Moab Beer will be in cans next summer.

That’s great news for Oskar Blues and I can’t wait to try Crazy Mountain’s offerings. Oh and it’s Hazed and Infused (not confused) 🙂
Cheers!
Too funny. Haven’t been listening to LZ at all recently either.
