Beer notes NY/NJ: Brew Masters, La Birreria, Captain Lawrence, Brooklyn

In this edition we have a Brew Masters teaser, an update on La Birreria (Eataly NYC’s brewpub) and a few morsels from Flying Fish, Captain Lawrence, Brooklyn Brewery, High Point and Great South Bay…

…We are now just over two weeks away from the cable television premiere of Brew Masters. The Discovery Channel now has the above teaser in heavy rotation (I had posted it in the upper right and on my Twitter on Tuesday so old news to some of you).

…Speaking of Dogfish Head, whatever happened to Eataly NYC’s La Birreria rooftop brewpub project? There is good news and bad news. Good news: DFH’s Mariah Calagione says that there is a retractable roof to be installed which means inclimate weather shouldn’t disrupt things. The bad news: La Birreria isn’t expected to open until March. John Holl of Ale Street News wrote about the project last month.

Flying Fish Brewing announced expanded distribution plans to VA, SC, GA, AZ, NV and FL on Thursday. “After keeping our distribution within 100 miles, we’ve dipped our toes into expansion. Working with our friends at Total Wines and More, we will be featured in all of their stores in the above states starting this month. That includes all new Exit releases as well. Once approvals are through, we’ll also be in their stores in CA and NC. Check out the current list of store locations.”

…As posted on Friday, Ramstein Winter Wheat Doppelbock returns next weekend.

I also picked up a few tidbits (late) from the print edition of Ale Street News:

Captain Lawrence Brewing has acquired “a good supply” of apple brandy barrels and can expand production of Golden Delicious, released earlier this fall, so that it is released every two months. As for the Smoke from the Oak Series three-pack I mentioned last week, ASN reported that it would be released this month though a CLB rep told me last week “around December.”

Brooklyn Brewery is undergoing a massive expansion that will take it from around 10,000 barrels annually to 20,000 barrels next year and eventually, 80,000 barrels. Look for a 22 oz. bottling line in the distant future.

Great South Bay Brewery is planning to start construction on a 30-barrel brewhouse in early January.

  1. I am pumped for this show to start and I can’t wait for the first episode. A show perfect for a craft beer geek like me.
