Before we get into the grand book giveaway, a few words…
I’ll take this opportunity from the usual beer reporting to say that, for the record, I am still working toward building a new website. I should have learned long ago from brewers that I cover that it is not always wise to estimate dates for things (especially new barrel-aged beers and new websites) so my apologies for not having up a new site six months after my original plan. Rest assured, the beer calendar will be restored soon enough on the new site which should be ready early next year at the latest (maybe sooner but doubtful given the way things have gone over the past year).
I’m currently splitting full days between working with a developer and doing several posts a day. I’m hoping to hit 200 this month but we’ll see. When it comes time to launch the website, I will be randomly picking people off of the newsletter list to test things. So if you’re looking for a reason to sign up for the newsletter (or click the black box to the right), please go do it now. All you need to do is enter your email and hit the submit button. I’m still taking donations, too!
Now, the other reason to sign up for the newsletter is my first giveaway here… a free copy of Dethroning the King: The Hostile Takeover of Anheuser-Busch to three readers. [Ed. Note: I am not taking a free copy as part of this post. All copies are going out to you guys.]
What do you have to do to win a free book? Sign up for the email newsletter (and confirm the message in your inbox) between now and Friday @12pm PST. That’s it! Or if you have already signed up for the newsletter, leave a comment in this post with the first part of your email address (so if it’s [email protected], then just put abc123 ~ if you’re really concerned about privacy, just email me).
“’Dethroning the King’ makes for a fine yarn with a cautionary message about American business in the age of globalization. InBev began laying off workers less than a month after the deal formally closed, Ms. MacIntosh reports. Maybe the next time a foreign entity tries to acquire a major American family company, the public will take notice before it becomes a fait accompli.”- Harry Hurt III, NY Times
In Dethroning the King, the award-winning financial journalist who led coverage of the takeover for the Financial Times details how the drama that unfolded at Anheuser-Busch in 2008 went largely unreported as the world tumbled into a global economic crisis second only to the Great Depression. Today, as the dust settles, questions are being asked about how the “King of Beers” was so easily captured by a foreign corporation, and whether the company’s fall mirrors America’s dwindling financial and political dominance.
From the very heart of America’s heartland to the European continent to Brazil, Dethroning the King is the ultimate corporate caper and a fascinating case study that’s both wide-reaching and profound.
I will be emailing three winners on Friday afternoon. If you haven’t heard from me by Saturday, I’m sorry but you haven’t won!
For more info on the book, check it out over at Amazon or some other online site or your local bookstore.
