(Harrisburg, PA) – The cat leaves the bag…
From the makers of Troegs Nugget Nectar comes another imperialized hoppy beer. The neck label for Troegs Perpetual IPA (Imperial Pale Ale, not India Pale Ale) reads, “In our constant evolution as a brewery, we’ve developed a drive to meld artisanal and mechanical. Perpetual IPA utilizes our hopback and dry-hopping to engineer a bold Imperial Pale Ale. We’re always testing the boundaries of modern brewing.” The beer has an ABV level of 7.5% and will be released in 22 oz. bottles.
Release date, description and availability info are unknown at this time though it sure looks like a description and ABV similar to that of Scratch #31 Citra IPA. Here is the description for that one. My presumption that this is a similar beer to Scratch #31 or was inspired by it was challenged though.
Troegs’ Ed Yashinsky had this to say on the beer when I asked him about it a month ago: “Sometimes we get excited and develop a name and label before we are ready to make the beer. there are no projected release dates at this time. As with the statement above, I don’t think the plan is to make this beer like Scratch #31.”
In other news, the brewery got approval for a new Splinter Series beer to appear in 750s as well. Troegs Wild Elf Ale is brewed with honey and cherries according to the label. Stay tuned for news on both beers.

I’m just curious as to the difference between this and their Nugget Nectar. Which is a limited release, very hoppy, 7.5% “imperial amber ale”.
I wonder if they’re just re-branding that for bombers?
