Kona Koko Brown coming next year, seasonals re-branded as “Aloha Series”

Kona Koko Brown

(Kona, HI) – Kona Brewing will introduce a new seasonal in 2011.

That, of course, doesn’t make any sense because Hawaii doesn’t have seasons. The low temperature in the winter is near 75. Seriously.

The Kona Brewing website currently calls Wailua Wheat a spring seasonal and Pipeline Porter an autumn seasonal. Regardless of whether the brewery still recognizes them as such going forward, the brewery is adding a formal name to these periodic releases and a new beer to go with the pair. The brewery will re-brand its seasonals as the Aloha Series beginning next year and Kona Koko Brown will make its debut though a release date hasn’t been made public.

Beer description per the neck label, “Koko Brown’s distinctive, nutty aroma and flavor comes from real toasted coconut blended into each brew. One sip of this roasty, smooth mahogany-colored beer and you will feel like you are on a warm, sun-drenched beach in Hawaii. Aloha! Since 1994, Kona Brewing Co. has been committed to making handcrafted ales and lagers of uncompromising quality. We invite you to visit our brewery and pubs whenever you visit Hawaii. Mahalo!”

  1. Well, considering that Kona is brewed in Oregon now, not actually in Hawaii (ok local kegs are brewed in Hawaii, everything else is brewed in Oregon) I guess you could get away with calling these beers seasonal.

  2. Actually, the Koko Brown label doesn’t really indicate it’s brewed anywhere but Hawaii. Some of the beers will be made in NH though.

  3. There are separate labels for the CBA/Redhook-brewed Kona brands now, that list NH as the brewery – in the case of Koko Brown, for instance, see TB# 10299001000353

  4. Good catch. Missed the other one. I’ve admired your contributions over at BA and look forward to getting more comments from you. Cheers! Adam

  5. All of the beers that they bottle and are sold on the mainland are brewed in Oregon.
All of the ones they sell in Hawaii are brewed in Kona.
