New Belgium Dunkel Weiss joins fellow Lips of Faith Series beers in bottles

(Fort Collins, CO) – New Belgium Dunkel Weiss is set to make its bottle debut.

Dunkel Weiss, part of the Lips of Faith Series, will be bottled. This beer will be released in January and available through March according to New Belgium’s Bryan Simpson. I’m taking a leap of faith that this version of Dunkel is the same as the previously draft-only “Dunkel Weiss 30 Degrees.”

Dunkel Weiss label description: “Cat-burglar-smooth and just as fond of the dark, Dunkel Weiss sneaks together wheat and barley malts with a pinch of black pepper. Nab one before it gives you the slip!”

RateBeer’s description: “Deep amber brown with a dense off-white head, Dunkelweiss 30° rediscovers Hefeweiss beers through a Belgian brewer’s lens. Envisioned by our own Matty ‘Smooth’ Gilliland, this beer opens with sweet clove and banana notes that give way to a chocolaty warm finish with a peppery tingle across the palate. ‘I thought it would be fun to make a German wheat beer; we’ve explored the Belgian wheats pretty thoroughly,’ said Gilliland. ‘Since this is Lips of Faith – and part of what makes that program fun is to make beers that are really unique and different – making a big, strong, dark Weiss beer sounded pretty folly-licious. It’ll still showcase all of the flavors that a Hefeweiss beer would have, but add in the burly body and extra punch. Think of it as a Grand Cru Dunkelweiss.'”

Trademark applications reveal that the brewery also applied for the term “Super Cru,” though the brewery does not currently have a beer that goes by this name and it appears that they won’t be giving this beer the Grand Cru/Super Cru name either.
