(Shiner, TX) – Two more labels for Spoetzl Brewery were approved this fall.
[12/26 Update: Both these beers are now available. The trend of seasonals being released a full season earlier continues.]
Here’s the back label for Shiner Old-Time Alt: “The Shiner Brewing Assocation (pictured) and original brewmaster, Kosmos Spoetzl, began an old world brewing tradition that continues today in Shiner, TX. This copper-colored, medium to full-bodied Dusseldorf-style Alt features a balance of malts and hops. A long-lasting, creamy head. And a dry, smooth finish. This small batch brew is our first brewer’s pride selection and we hope you savor every sip.” No release date has been announced.
In addition, Shiner Frost is getting a new look to coincide more closely with its release timing. First made available in late December 2009, the beer now known as Shiner Dortmunder-style Spring Ale will next be released in spring, 2011.
the beers are both available now. the old time is available in the family reunion and the spring is also avalaible
Is the old time just the Shiner Kosmos Reserve?
I contacted the brewery spokesman but they never got back to me.
Thanks, Adrian. Updated the article at the top.
shiner frost/spring ale is one of the best i have had. wish they would make it a regular beer they brew. i collected all the aniversary beer bottles except the 97. i thought it was the nastiest crap i ever tasted out of shiner. then they say it was so popular they made it a reg. whoda thunk it. havent seen the old time yet. i dont drink any of shiners regular beers they brew. but really like the 96/octfest and frost the best. i have to buy other brands when those 2 arent around.
FYI, the Old Time ALT is in the family reunion pack right now, and it is without a doubt the best beer that Shiner has released (that I’ve tasted anyway). And I promise you that the ALT is NOT Kosmos Reserve. It’s fantastic and it probably costs more to brew than anything else they produce. I’d definitely be willing to pay a little extra for it in a sixer if they made it permanent.
being a good Brit and a beer drinker from way back, the Old-Timer is one of the best I have tasted, and that say’s a lot. If this is seasonable beer, how do i get more before the season has gone.
Wasn’t thrilled with the old-time alt, but it isn’t a favorite beer style of mine either!
I must say the Shiner Brewery is on the right track in brewing this wonderful full body beer. The taste is fantastic. I wish only that this beer not be season and produced full time. Keep up the good work Shiner.

Where can we find alcohol contents of Shiner beers?
Not sure Nancy. You may need to do a search for Shiner ABV in google. Or try RateBeer.com maybe?
just bought a 6 pack of the spring ale, wish i bought a case.
I love the Spring Ale..the perfect ‘weight’ for the (pre)
season. Bringing it to my jam sessions recently and it’s rockin’ the joint.
