(Bellaire, MI) – Another Michigan brewery is blowing up.
[12/10 Update: 8,000 barrels (a 33% growth rate from 2009) is projected for 2010.]
Fox Business News continued its newfound love affair with craft beer this week with an interview with Short’s Brewing CFO and Vice President, Scott Newman-Bale. Newman-Bale reveals that the brewery projects 20,000 to 25,000 kegs next year but I’m not sure how that translates to barrels. Short’s was up 200% in 2009 according to the Brewers Association. The only other brewery above 5,000 barrels to hit that mark was New York-based Sixpoint at 210%. Short’s is up to 8,000 barrels in 2010 according to the Traverse City Record Eagle, a much more manageable 33% growth rate.
Newman-Bale adds that the #1 selling brand for the brewery is an IPA, Huma-Lupa-Licious.
A key component of Short’s ongoing expansion is the addition of a canning line next spring. MLive.com recently reported that the first wave of cans should arrive by summer.
As for upcoming releases, between MLive and Newman-Bale’s posts on Beer Advocate, it looks like they are as follows:
December 17th:
Freedom of ’78 Pure Guava IPA (collaboration with Half Acre) and Liberator
Late December-ish:
Wizard, London Ale and Good Samaritan
January:
Mystery Stout and Woodmaster
The Full Pint posted up the 2011 schedule which also shows Good Humans as a January release. Newman-Bale said on BA that the list is being finalized.
Actually, it’s not Pure Guava, it’s called Freedom of ’78. It’s the Guava IPA that they collaborated with Half Acre in Chicago on
Ah, I forgot to put in IPA there. I just changed it to clarify: “Freedom of ’78 Pure Guava IPA.” Thanks!
I wonder what became of Turtle Stout. It appears to be available on draft around Michigan, but as far as I know bottles haven’t appeared in southeast Michigan yet.
Freedom of ’78 is out now at the brewpub only.
We can’t get enough of Sam can we?
This broad is awful at interviewing people.
Wrong post?
