Time to play some catch-up after the holiday break…


…Greg Kitsock of The Washington Post has some noteworthy bits on Dogfish Head this morning. Chief among them:

“Calagione, however, confided that he was considering a bottling run of ta henket […]”

“One episode of ‘Brew Masters’ remains unaired: a segment on Italy’s burgeoning craft breweries. The story isn’t complete yet, explains Calagione. The episode was supposed to conclude with the grand opening of Dogfish Head’s latest project: a rooftop brewpub atop New York City’s Eataly, an emporium of upscale restaurants and markets that opened last fall under the guidance of celebrity chef Mario Batali and restaurateur Joe Bastianich. […] The anticipated opening is now mid-March.”

It could be a while until that sixth and final episode, or any of the previous episodes for that matter, see airtime.

Lost Abbey/Port Brewing released its latest monthly update, announcing that it is a) expanding capacity, b) will begin distributing into Georgia this month and c) has brandy barrels for sale at the brewery. Here are upcoming January releases…

Wide distribution:
Jan 10 – Midnight Expression (formerly Midnight Sessions)
Jan 17 – Serpent’s Stout
Jan 24 – Mongo Double IPA (yes, in bottles!)

Limited distribution / Brewery only:
Jan 22 – Dawn Patrol Dark (draft-only English Mild that is used as base beer for Red Poppy)
Jan 29 – Angel’s Share (Brandy)

…Ready for spring yet? Bottles of Samuel Adams Noble Pils and Shiner Dortmunder-style Spring Ale arrived last week according to field reports on Twitter. The first day of spring is March 20th.

…Over the weekend, Flat 12 Bierwerks became the latest new brewery to open its doors in the U.S. This one is based in Indianapolis.

Mikkeller says that Koppi Coffee IPA is on its way to the U.S. later this month.

…Finally, Eagle Rock Brewery will celebrate its first birthday this weekend with a big event.
