(Placentia, CA) – Some updated details on this weekend’s release.

It’s been 19 hours and counting since The Bruery teased craft beer nation with a photo of Chocolate Rain in a bottle along with a note, “Dear 2011 Reserve Society, We’ll see you on Saturday.” Already, nearly 30 threads have started on Beer Advocate where users are asking for info about the release and asking to trade for the beer. The event for Reserve Society members will start this Saturday at 12:30pm according to a Facebook message within the past hour. If you are not enrolled as a member of that society (sign-ups are sold out for the year), you won’t be able to get this beer directly from the brewery.

Here is some additional info from The Bruery’s Patrick Rue on Beer Advocate a few hours ago:

“You’re correct that we aren’t selling any Chocolate Rain, it’s the mystery beer in the initial signup package. What is incorrect is that it will be available for pickup this weekend, but only members or their designated person (the person that you listed in the “shipping” address, formerly known as trustees) will be able to pick it up this weekend. We’ll be posting hours later today for pickups on Saturday, but it’ll be at The Bruery rather than at the Phoenix Club due to legal issues. They’ll be available for pickup at The Bruery Provisions next week, and we’ll store them for those who aren’t able to pick up immediately.”

Why so much buzz about this one? A 4.72 average on Beer Advocate and a 4.32 average (unweighted) on RateBeer will help create that.

  1. The Beer Advocate web site is the last place anyone should go if they are seeking taste information about a particular beer.

If the site is for fun or amusement only, then OK I get it. However, it is most useful spreading Internet hype for wannabe/wishIwas a cult beer (Can you say The Bruery?).

Most importantly, you need a palate before you can rate a beer. Read the reviews and then report back.

Also, there are no clear areas on what you are actually trying to rate. Should it be a science? Perhaps not

And lastly, you don’t rate beer with your eyes. A common problem at BA.
