(San Francisco, CA) – Anchor Brewers and Distillers will release a brand new offering one week from tomorrow.
Long before Fritz Maytag entered the scene, there was Gottlieb Brekle. Per the brewery’s website, “The rich history of Anchor Brewing can be traced all the way back to the Gold Rush, when German brewer Gottlieb Brekle arrived in San Francisco with his wife Marie and infant son Frederick. Brekle applied for citizenship in 1854, and his brewing and business acumen would soon lead to his ownership of a little San Francisco brewery on Pacific, between Larkin and Hyde, which would one day become known as Anchor.”
Anchor is celebrating Mr. Brekle with a new draft-only brown ale called Brekle’s Brown. The public will be able to get its hands on it beginning next Thursday. The SF Beer Week website notes that the beer will be available at the following locations: (2/17) Anchor & Hope, City Beer Store, Comstock Saloon, Public House, Shotwell’s, Toronado, (2/18) Jack’s Cannery Bar, Tope (2/19) Fat Angel, Monk’s Kettle, Pi Bar & Zeitgeist.
There are only 420 kegs total of this one says a brewery rep.
This is great news but for crying out loud – bottle the darn thing. For the most part, I love draft-only but there are a few out there that transpose well to bottle. Anchor are right there.
Perhaps being local doesn’t hurt. But considering how well their Humming Ale delivered and don’t miss the current Bock seasonal.Classis Anchor and just downright great stuff.
